Advanced Earth Observation and Informatics Technologies for Early Study and Warning of Mosquito-Transmitted Diseases (EMPROS)
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PROJECT
EMPROS (Advanced Earth Observation and Informatics Technologies for Early Study and Warning of Mosquito-Transmitted Diseases) aims to enhance epidemiological surveillance and response to the West Nile Virus by developing a comprehensive system equipped with heterogeneous (e.g. satellite, epidemiological, entomological, ornithological) data, tools and models. The system will ensure fast and easy data recording, storage and retrieval of big data, the fastest processing and analysis of big data, as well as the business operation of automated products and information which are critical for immediate coordination and rapid updating.
The areas of application of the system are the Regions of Thessaly, Western Greece and Central Macedonia, well connected with the cases of the virus as well as with the existence of historical data. The technical scope of the project has a wide range of actions, including: field information, laboratory analysis, automated uses of satellite data, implementation and development of widely used models worldwide, use of big data technologies and business operation of automated services / information critical to decision making.
Online platform for epidemiological, entomological & ornithological surveillance
The Web platform is the main source of services and final products of the project, such as the dynamics of mosquito risk and nuisance, the definition of new methodologies and workflows, as well as the design of new examples in order to make it easier for the end user to use and understand all provided information.
